Bearded Dragon

Bearded Dragons

Native animals I came across during my travels in Austrailia.

This bearded dragon’s scientific name is Pogona Vitticeps. They are medium sized lizards 12-24 inches in length from their head to the tip of their tail.
Beardies come in a variety of colors, From a bright rust red to various shades of yellow, all over brown or black
patterned skin.
Bearded dragons are only naturally found in Australia’s desert regions. Generally they are found in the southeastern Northern Territory and the eastern half of South Australia. Their habitats included woodlands, savannahs, and deserts. It is not uncommon to find them basking in branches, on stumps, or rocks during the morning there.
They were first introduced to the pet trade in the early 1990’s and
Have since become very popular as pets.
I generally don’t recommend keeping wild animals as pets, but Beardies in captivity become exceptionally tame and interact with
human, dogs & cats if allowed to be at liberty part of the day. This is, of course, only if the other pets involved will allow it!
All Beardies in the pet trade are captive bred and raised so,
native wild populations are not affected.
However, these lizards are long-lived that mst be taken into consideration when deciding to have one in your home.
